Before you book

  • 01Nuremberg, the base: the Christkindlesmarkt runs 27 November to 24 December, 10:00 to 21:00, and opens with the Christkind's prologue at 17:30 on 27 November
  • 02Bamberg: about 45 minutes by regional train, market from late November to 23 December
  • 03Rothenburg: about 1 h 15 with a change at Steinach.
  • 04The Reiterlesmarkt opens on 20 November, a week before Nuremberg's, and runs to 23 December
  • 05The ticket is the Deutschlandticket: €63 for a calendar month, covering every regional train in second class.
  • 06It's €63 until 31 December and €66.80 from 1 January, and a trip that spans November and December needs a pass for each month.
  • 07The trap: Nuremberg closes at 14:00 on Christmas Eve and most of the smaller markets end around the 23rd, so don't plan your last day for the 24th.

Four Christmas markets, one train pass 🎄🚆 Bamberg is my favourite of the four: smaller than Nuremberg, and the old town hall sits in the middle of the river. 📍 Nuremberg, the base: the Christkindlesmarkt runs 27 November to 24 December, 10:00 to 21:00, and opens with the Christkind's prologue at 17:30 on 27 November 📍 Bamberg: about 45 minutes by regional train, market from late November to 23 December 📍 Rothenburg: about 1 h 15 with a change at Steinach. The Reiterlesmarkt opens on 20 November, a week before Nuremberg's, and runs to 23 December 📍 Würzburg: about an hour, market from late November (check the dates) The ticket is the Deutschlandticket: €63 for a calendar month, covering every regional train in second class. Not the ICE. It's €63 until 31 December and €66.80 from 1 January, and a trip that spans November and December needs a pass for each month. The ICE from Berlin or Munich is a separate ticket. The trap: Nuremberg closes at 14:00 on Christmas Eve and most of the smaller markets end around the 23rd, so don't plan your last day for the 24th. 👉 Swipe for all four markets. Save this for your trip and send it to who you'd go with. Which market would you start with? 👇
