21 °C in January, and it's still Spain ☀️
Skip a beach day for the Anaga forest. It's the side of Tenerife that rarely makes the postcards, and my favourite.
January in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on average:
🌡️ Highs 21.0 °C, lows 15.4 °C
☀️ 178 hours of sun
🌧️ About 4 rainy days, so warm, not cloudless
February is almost the same: 21.2 °C and 186 hours of sun.
The catch is at the top of Teide, Spain's highest peak. The cable car climbs to 3,555 m and costs €42 return for visitors, 09:00 to 17:00 in winter. But the final trail to the summit needs its own permit, and since January 2026 visitors pay €15 for it on Tenerife ON. Book it before you fly, not on the day.
Also worth the drive: Masca on its ridge, the Los Gigantes cliffs and the misty laurel forest of Anaga.
